Against every deportation and every deportation prison!
Demonstration 13.05.2023 / 1 pm Glückstadt

…until the prison closes again! No deportation prison in Glückstadt!

Since August 2021, the deportation prison in Glückstadt (Schleswig-Holstein) is already in operation. In the past year 2022 alone, over 200 people were detained in the Glückstadt deportation prison, and for most of those detained, their detention ended with their deportation. The prison is shared by Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Hamburg, with Schleswig-Holstein responsible for operating the facility. Detention pending deportation is not criminal detention. The suspicion that a person could evade deportation is already sufficient for detention. People are thus only detained in order to facilitate their deportation by the authorities. Since the states of Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern started planning the deportation prison, we have resolutely opposed it and will continue to do so until it is closed…

… because no human being is illegal!
When the first plans around the deportation prison in Glückstadt became public, the campaign „No deportation prison in Glückstadt and elsewhere!“ was founded. The campaign is supported by anti-racist groups from HH, MV and SH. We understand deportation detention as an inhumane expression of global injustice, of the war against refugees, which takes place at the external borders of Europe, in the Mediterranean Sea but also in the province of Schleswig-Holstein. We will continue to fight, because….

The prison must close again!
The prisoners lived in SH, HH and MV before their deportation detention. They are detained in the Glückstadt jail for up to 18 months after their capture. Minors and families are not safe either, there are extra detention places for them in Glückstadt.
With the cynical slogan „housing minus freedom“, an attempt is made to present the prison as a particularly humane detention facility and thus to conceal the inhumane reality of deportation detention. A six-meter high wall, locking hours, a fenced inner courtyard and an isolation cell with a fixation option for detainees have nothing to do with „living“. The reports from detainees also speak for themselves. The psychological stress caused by the environment, unfair treatment and deprivation of liberty is enormous. Hunger strikes and escape attempts show how hopeless and grueling imprisonment is for the detainees and their families.

There is no humane deportation detention!
Fortress Europe invokes freedom and human rights as its fundamental values. However, the actions of MPs and governments make it unmistakably clear that these values do not apply to all people. A distinction is made between welcome and non-welcome people, between people with rights and freedoms and the disenfranchised, deprived of their freedom. As long as people are „useful“ for our prosperity they are allowed to enter and stay. All others are rejected at the borders, they are maltreated, shot, illegally rejected or end up in deportation prisons. Billions are spent to seal off Europe more and more with the help of violence. The system of detention pending deportation is part of the war against refugees and migrants.

No deportations to disaster areas!

After the devastating earthquakes in Kurdistan, Northern Syria and Turkey at the beginning of February 2023, international solidarity was rightly great. Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser even announced shortly thereafter unbureaucratic visa grants for those affected with relatives living in Germany. Nevertheless, as late as February, people with Turkish passports who come from the earthquake zone and whose families were directly affected by the disaster were detained in Glückstadt and deported from there to Turkey. The interior ministries argue that the deportations are only to Istanbul, where, however, there is no local support for those affected and they are threatened with homelessness. Last but not least, over 6 million people have lost their homes due to the earthquake. The only support these people receive is from their friends and families in the disaster area, which is why they feel compelled to return to that very place.

Deportation detention is a disgusting expression of institutional racism!
We are in solidarity with all people on the run, with all people who are motivated to migrate by the hope for peace, equality and perspective. We know, freedom exists only if this means freedom for all people worldwide!

In this sense, we call for the supra-regional demonstration on 13.05.2023 in Glückstadt!
Against every deportation and every deportation prison!
No one is free, until everyone is free!
